Linksys Wish-list
Seeing that Linksys keeps adding (unsupported) features to their
routers, here's a short list of features I'd like to see added:
- External IP address filtering. Since the router can
already block internal IP addresses from getting out, it should
not be too hard to block external IP addresses (or subnets) from
getting in! This has to be done so that the external IP filter
overrides everything else. If you're on the ban list, your
connection should be dropped regardless of port forwarding.
- DHCP reservations. The ability to specify that one
computer always gets the same IP address via DHCP can be very
useful. Makes it easier to handle static IP addresses without
having to deal with changing DNS server addresses or gateway
addresses.
- DNS settings for DHCP. The ability to specify DNS server
settings to be handed out by the DHCP server would be handy for
those who have an internal DNS server. Although you can hardcode
the DNS servers on the Setup Page, duplicating these fields on the
DHCP page would make it easier.
- Please fix the IPSec pass-through!
- Port translation: The ability to accept connections on
one port on the router and direct it to another port on the
server. This way, quick fixes can be done on the router rather
than re-configuring server software.
